My father gave me the railfan bug. As far as I can remember, as a baby, my father would take me on evening roadtrips sometimes to get me to fall asleep. It really didn't work. He's been a railfan for decades, and part of his driving around would be to CN's Thornton yard in Surrey, BC. I guess at some point I got aware of where he was going, and always waited until he parked the car with the window down, and let the GP9/slug switcher lul me to sleep.
Another cool thing was that my father got me really into SP. Everyone around here is infactuated with CN, CP, and regionals around town, so to know what a "tunnel motor" is, what Chester Mack did and to delight in Stein's photography was uncommon around here- and especially when I was 7.
