Tom Moungovan relates about a time he got to run the 46, it had six cars that day and made the Northspur to Ridge Hill grade with no slipping or other issues. CWR officially rated the 45 at 5 cars and 46 at 7 over the hill, though the 45 did make it up with six cars once, barely. As noted Georgia Pacific owned the CWR, they were and are a major lumber manufacturer and owned the Fort Bragg mill at the time. CWR last used the 46 around the end of the 1977 season, in the end they were cutting back on steam powered trips due to the expense and the engine was just too expensive to maintain, so it sat for about seven years before being donated.
