For what it's worth, I would vote for the Alco S2 and S4. Not as powerful as later switchers, they had 1000 hp and could pull three tracks out of First St. yard in LA, albeit at a very slow speed, heading for Hobart yard. And of course, paralleling the LA River it was a little bit downhill most of the way. But they were very easy for ground crew to get on and off, also.
