The cartoon makes a good point. As fast as the bullet train is going to go, a Southwest Airlines 737 will still go faster. I read somewhere that, as an economy move, instead of the line being double tracked, it will, in the early stages, be single track with passing sidings. It will probably be the world's only bullet train that will have to wait at red signals for opposing traffic. Maybe they'll just have one train shuttling back and forth between Wasco and Merced to avoid any potential collisions.
