Campaign Trains in the 2024 Election?

I wonder if Hillary will do any campaigning by train. Maybe she can charter the "Ferdinand Magellon", the car that FDR used extensively when he was in office.

Mamie Eisenhower didn't like to fly and she and Ike used to ride the Santa Fe to San Bernardino and then a motorcade took him to Palm Springs where he hung out and played golf. I wonder why they didn't have a special SP train take him from Colton to West Palm Springs. Maybe he and Mamie should have requested their special train be routed on the CRIP-SP "Golden State Route". They could have asked to be routed on the EP&SW "South Line" west of El Paso, which you can't ride anymore because it's abandoned. As they were running along the U.S.-Mexican border, they could have "mooned" all the future Democrat voters standing on the south side of the boundary, waiting to make their move after nightfall. Oh, wait. We really didn't have an illegal alien problem back in the 1950s because there was a "Bracero" guest worker program. Everything was organized and the U.S.A. had a say in the matter of who was coming across the border. We had a sovereign border, something that's just an elusive dream now.

In 1956 Ike rode a SP train to Monterey that he tied in with playing some golf at Pebble Beach. Back then, when he was riding the Monterey Branch, he didn't have to worry about running over tourists who were peddling their human-powered carts down the track, rented at over-priced rates by that guy who runs that "other" site. His "for just pennies a day" business model certainly doesn't apply to his rail-cart venture.

Years ago I talked to a retired CHP guy and he told me a story of when he was part of the motorcycle escort for Eisenhower's San Bernardino-Palm Springs motorcade. He said a big bird hit him in the chest during the motorcade and he almost spilled the bike. The secret service agents probably wrestled the bird to the ground, thinking that it was trying to attack the president.

Maybe after 2024 President Trump or President DeSantis will have a desire to travel by train once in a while. It's a good way to reach out to the constituency.
