Here's a picture I took on February 22, 1996 where, along with a couple of railfan friends, I rode NdeM Trains 332 and 331 from Oaxaca to Taviche and back. The photo shows the passenger car and caboose being left on a leg of the wye at Taviche and the locomotive is being wyed and brought around to the opposite end of the train for the return trip to Oaxaca.
In addition to a smattering of passengers, there was also retired couple from Long Island who also rode with us to and from Taviche. They were in Oaxaca as their son was living there and he recommended they make the trip. Apparently, with the advisement by residents, the less-than-five-hour train ride was somewhat of a tourist attraction for people visiting the city of Oaxaca.
In my 21st Installment, I posted an excerpt from my
RAIL TRAVEL NEWS article where I described riding this train.
Of course, the train is discontinued and the tracks have been ripped up. A few months ago I tried tracing this rail line on aerial photos and I didn't have all that much luck.
