Houston-Dallas HSR with the Japanese consortium continues to move forward, and will almost surely open before actual CAHSR.

Brightline may not technically be HSR but it will cost effectively meet the need. Fort lauderdale and Wet Palm Beach will be less than 3 and 4 hours from Orlando and Tampa. Miami a few minutes over 3 and 4 hours from them. Under 3 hours is considered prime for HSR and 4 hours is a minimum target above which ridership drops off hard. Brightline will be in revenue service next year.

Brightline in the future can electrify and speed up service. Further down the road the state may create a WEst Palm Beach to Orlando bypass at true HSR speeds. Incrementalism is the lesson never really learned by CAHSR. They act like letting the San Joaquins use the initial segment would be a crime.
