Another trick the LTL companies use is the " Was it properly packaged ( i.e. - could it survive a Nuclear Blast ? ), do you still have ALL original packaging, your copy of the ORIGINAL Delivery Receipt, the delivery driver's height, weight, blood type, and favorite color " until you cry UNCLE routine.
Worth mentioning that the LTL company is only responsible for the OUTER - MOST packaging; if a shipper places one Ming Vase LOOSE in a 55 gallon drum, LTL is only responsible for that drum and its' condition upon arrival.
Another trick is the " We lost the info, photos, claim form, and drivers' blood sample. Can you re-send it all again ??? " deal. This is how trucking companies can make the boast : " Lowest Claims Ratio in the Industry !!! " They just find a thousand ways to wear you down until you give up. Then they don't have to pay the claim.
BTW - Yellow Freight & Roadway were the 2 WORST LTL Carriers for damage; kinda ironic they combined into one BIG mess - YRC Corp. - which lost $180 MILLION Dollars in 2019.
