Alameda Tracks Oakland Homestead Yard Name Origin?

Hi All,
Here's a page from the 1980ish SPINS for Oakland showing tracks 0241-0246. These are Alameda 1-6, according to the SPINS.

Anyone know why they were called that? And also, if you know, would be interested to know what they were used for. It sort of looks like it was a "industrial support yard" for the SP freight house at 5th and Kirkham along with the handful of industries around there. But I haven't read about this particular area would be interested to hear from someone with some knowledge here.
