Thanks for the item on red light cameras in Tacoma, yet another reason not to go there. Spokane is thinking about them. There have recently been several studies showing that they do not reduce accidents, just change them, collisions are replaced by rear enders (Spokesman Review 3/5/07 is one story). Also studies have shown that the companies that operate the cameras (and get a cut of the revenue) alter the traffic lights they are installed on to shorten the length of the yellow lights (one city the time was reduced by 60%). And if you come on a light that won't change and sit there for 10 minutes, you still get a $101 ticket when you finally decide to go through the intersection---and you can't get out of the ticket because the light is always right!!!
