As someone responsible for public safety on our transportation systems, I am appalled at the response to the light rail traffic camera, or traffic camera's in general.
Perhaps 10,000 preventable deaths and over a hundred thousand prevenatable injuries, and billions in property damage are acceptable to irresponsible scofflaws, but not to me. I have as a public official installed them in Pasadena, CA, and encourage their installation at both rail crossings and intersections as a means of saving lives, treasure, and on-time performance or our rail systems.
A red light, or a lowered crossing gate, means stop--period--if it doesn't then you should not be allowed to operate a vehicle, and if a fine reminds you and saves someone elses life, then good.
