The GGRM is finally getting the 2472 out on the mainline. They didn't want to merge with the PLA because they didn't want to only operate on a "tourist railroad". They wanted to be out on the MAINLINE! Well, they're going to be on a mainline. Unfortunately they'll be going half as fast with no grades to challenge the loco at all. It should look good in pictures but videos may not be so exciting. Aside from the first 100 yards or so it will be drifting.
I have to admit that it will be cool to see a steam train on the old SP Schellville Branch. Ironically the whole line the GGRM will be operating on was not part of the original NWP. It was all SP until the SP leased it to the California Northern. Too bad the 2472 wasn't able to operate on it back then.
If this operation works out for the GGRM then maybe they could set up an operation for when there is the NASCAR race at Sonoma Raceway. I know it was tried before and worked to get people past the massive traffic tie-up. They should try it again. GGRM is in the perfect location to do it.
