I hope they can make this museum more of a "moving" experience. Like an "amusement park" train museums can potentially offer "rides". And, like "amusement parks", even non-profit museums can recoup some of the real costs of maintaining these collection in operating condition.

Cults of personality, poor planning, and incompetent business plans have wrecked plenty of rail museums and tourist operations. But I have no problem with repentance and good works. So I am okay with RR museums who are able to attract good people, and have good leadership, who have good plans, and sound business models that can maintain and operate these RR collection for future generations.

I like to ride trains myself, so it's not really a problem with me, like it is with your typical brand of train hating troll on a rail chat board.

If they were able to run trains at Campo, and it could generate necessary revenues to sustain the museum, just like a private amusement park like Knott's Berry Farm does, I'd be just fine with it.... Does Roaring Camp count as an "amusement park", how about Durango, or the Cumbres and Toltec? When I hear folks trash talk RR museums, I wonder how much they really like trains, and how many hours they've volunteered to these museums, or if they have tried to fix the things they complain about, or how much money, if any, they've ever donated?

And, restoring the Tecate beer trains, as an "amusement park ride" would be great for local tourism, in Campo, Tecate, and at the museum. They just ran that Huell Howser special again... Of course, I like beer almost as much as I like trains... Although, I'm more of a Modelo guy myself...
