Because the European axle loadings a FAR les that here in the U.S., thus the weight on drive wheels is much less and, plus their horse power output is much less.

No. Not with the HP output of such locomotives.

Right, since their trains were much lighter and speed was important, especially for passenger equipment.

Been there twice for "Plandampfs" (planned steam)where a whole subdivision was operated with all steam power for about 4 days (late 1980s or early 1990s in what was East Germany, as best as I can remember).
