That deal is essentially " Loose Carload " railroading - the EXACT type of service that U.S. Railroads are RUNNING away from right now.
Hanjin was the last Ocean Steamship Company to bring import cans into Port of Portland. They gave that up 5 (?) years ago, even before Hanjin went bankrupt and closed up shop. Transit times on the Columbia River were poor, and Longshore troubles at T-6 nailed the coffin shut. The 3 hour drive from Ports of Seattle / Tacoma can handle what full export can traffic still exists.
Port of Portland still handles Honda Auto imports, with U.P. hauling the majority of loads Eastbound. Lotsa grain exports from POP, Vancouver, & Kalama too; much of it transloaded from Columbia & Snake River barges.
