Killing the Mission St. lines was one of the dumbest moves of postwar Muni.

I suspect that all of the postwar mayors of SF up to Alioto just wanted to get rid of Muni and sell off all the real estate. I suggest the unions whose support they needed somewhat slowed down the extinction process. The electricians union certainly helped keep what was left of the streetcar system and the trolley coaches.
