When things like airplane cockpits are automated, the operator loses skill and is less attentive and less engaged. With a speed governor in a car will, the driver will become conditioned to just holding the pedal down and letting the computer govern speed. He will be less engaged in controlling it and lose that skill. The downside becomes apparent when the computer drops off line and you are on your own.

I miss the last century more and more.
