The portable ditch lights were added at either Hinton or Jasper. They don't appear in the photo I took of the train in Edmonton.

Canadian railroads came up with the idea of ditch lights and now they're a standard feature of locomotives. A locomotive engineer I used to work with remarked that the first time he ran a locomotive equipped with ditch lights caused him to note a world of difference. "I can see!"
