About thirty-three years ago, I used to collect tickets and issue seat checks on the platform at that station when the nearby Del Mar horse racing track was in season. They would put on several extra jobs to work a southward train, and then work the busiest northbound train back after the races were finished. We would walk uptown mid-day to have lunch. It was a tough job but SOMEBODY had to do it. There was a San Diego-based conductor who used to live on the second story of that station building for some time. Now that Solana Beach is being used, I'm not sure what the Del Mar station is being used for.
