I believe that regular scheduled BC Rail passenger service ended after a provincial election in which New Democratic Party (left of center, originally near Socialist) lost power and Liberals (centrist) took power. The province-operated intercity and rural bus service in Saskatchewan ended with a similar election, NDP losing to Conservatives.
