Here's a photo I took on August 27, 1976, FORTY-SIX YEARS AGO, when I made a one-week trip to British Columbia and Alberta.
After completing a round trip on the British Columbia Railway from North Vancouver to Lillooet on the 26th, I lodged for the night at the Plaza International Hotel in North Vancouver and took this photo of it the next morning. This was probably the poshest hotel I stayed at on the trip and, believe it or not, I did take a few general, touristy non-railroad photos. While it was a hotel in 1976, it has since been converted to high-priced apartments and a Staples stationery store has been built next to it along with an underground garage. Here's a recent Google streetview image of it:

While doing some Internet research on the hotel, I discovered I was three years too early to experience disco dancing at one of the hotel's nightclubs! Just my luck.

In the coming days the last two photos closing out this presentation of my Canadian trip will feature a CP Air 727 and an aerial photo of downtown Los Angeles while on final approach to LAX. After that I'll post some more train pictures.
