The vast majority of water in the western US goes to agriculture Agriculture in Deserts like Arizona and Southern California's Imperial valley.

This is due to not understanding the risks over 100 years ago and encouraging americans to Farm or Ranch on every piece of Desolate land out west. Dumb.

But it's a lot harder to tell descendants they shouldn't be on the land their families have farmed for 100 years.
