Gallup, NM, Station Closed
Effective December 1, 2022
The Gallup, NM, station is closed with no access to the waiting room or restrooms. Amtrak trains continue to stop in Gallup and passengers have access to the platform.
Passengers should wait in their vehicles in the parking lot to the east of the station for the train to arrive and go directly to the platform to board their train.
-Amtrak
One more example of a train station that has been taken over by a city and refurbished with taxpayer money, and Amtrak not wanting anything to do with it. Heaven forbid if they might have to staff it with a good, old fashioned ticket agent making union-scale wages. Now, Amtrak is apparently finding out that "caretakers" aren't all that reliable in staffing the stations at train times when the wages are so lousy or even non-existent.
So in the middle of winter does the passenger who's being met my another party freeze to death if the meeting party has been delayed considerably in arriving at the station? Does that passenger pee in the bushes because there are no public restrooms available? This is a great way to encourage and build ridership. BOB2, now it's time for you to sling some insults.
