These are the key problem areas (quoted from the press release):
" . . . uniform signal aspects to communicate meanings more effectively, wayside signal indication training and proficiency programs, crewmember communication and action in response to operating concerns . . . "
The train went from a GCOR railroad to a NORAC one, and the same signal indication means vastly different things on each. Atk's "wayside signal indication training" has been quite inadequate of late, not to mention the OJT part of the engineer training program. The communication and response angle is what I refer to when I speak of the now long gone crusty old-head conductor chasing you around the yard with a brake club if you seriously f**k up like this. It doesn't matter how many sets of eyes are in the cab if the old head doesn't put his point over forcefully (which they used to do).
