Traffic was down 37% over the previous year, in January, for POLB/POLA intermodal loadings. Traffic is down a similar or slightly greater amount in intermodal trains-especially from out of the Alameda Corridor. Lumber, concrete, aggregate, construction steel, plaster board, and other construction related commodities are also down significantly in the west. LA?LB/San Diego/Port Hueneme have so many autos stored that the are running out of room and have started renting off site storage, they now have a 6 month supply of unsold inventory at the ports, so this isn't moving by rail either. Grain, methanol, and coal loading are leaving traffic much less affected in the midwest. General level of trains over Tehachipi, Beaumont, and Cajon are all down, as a result.

Lighter freight rail traffic has, ironically, "improved" long distance "on-time" Amtrak performance. The heavily padded Amtrak long distance schedules, now result in visibly/shockingly long and dubious "smoking stops" to kill time.

Storage is at such a premium for intermodal equipment that empty double stacks carsets are parked on the old ATSF second district mainline from the San Gabriel River, through Duarte, all the way to Monrovia, cut for the crossings.
