Hold on, Sweetpee-- We're NOT quite done yet with this topic:
Here are THREE distinct quotes from different periodicals naming YUBA GAP as "the" place.
Observe !!
"Thus when the City of San Francisco became trapped at Yuba Gap in January 1952, the entire organization was embarrassed; Russell was mortified."
"On the way back to Norden, one of the cab-forwards pulling the stricken diesels derailed, taking the diesels with it. And this was only the beginning. The City of San Francisco of January 13 left Sparks at 11:23 a.m., and by 12:15 p.m. was stalled in the heavy snow near Yuba Gap"
"On January 13, 1952, the Southern Pacific's luxury passenger train, the streamlined City of San Francisco, became mired in a snow avalanche at Yuba Gap, not far from Donner Pass. The 226 passengers and crew on board would remain snowbound for three days and nights, as one of the worst Sierra blizzards raged unabated. The dramatic chronology of a massive rescue effort moutned by the railroad is related here in complete detail."
That LAST quote comes from the annuals of the purists at the California State Railroad Museum.
Also, some one mentioned in this thread mentioned NOT SEEING the ultra-knowledgable "JLY" in a particular SP timetable, listed as the Division Superintendent...
Therefore, I decided to conduct an investigation:
For ALL of you "employee timetable" collectors out there------------
PLEASE provide me with the "DATES" and "TIMETABLE ISSUE NUMBER" for ALL Southern Pacific
"Sacramento Division" timetables wherein "J.F. LYNCH" is listed as the Division Superintendent.... I thank you in advance !!
