He didn't "redesign" anything. He just failed to
take care of what he inherited from all the people
he couldn't wait to get rid of.

Perhaps you didn't notice that one of 844's last trips
before the boiler simply couldn't steam any more
consisted a whopping total of 3 cars -- and a diesel
to do all the work.
