Uncle Pete's Mystery Cars

I was doing some GOOGLE Streetview surfing and noticed these weird looking freight cars in Tucumcari, NM. Anyone have any idea what they're used for? Coiled steel?

They've poured some money into the station, making it a museum, since I last passed through there. It's in great shape, at least externally.

Another point of interest is a few miles east of town where the now-abandoned CRIP Choctaw Route ran in a short tunnel underneath Interstate 40. Maybe they grow mushrooms in it now.
