Yes somewhat in that AC motors are brushless and take virtually no maintenance. DC motors require
brush replacement and some clean-up of the armature faces during rebuild. In most cases the motors
will live at least as long as the prime mover and in each case would be rebuilt during engine
overhauls. DC failure usually occurs during extended duty at low speeds and high heat and produces
a thermal failure aka smoke at the brush/armature contact area.
