Like automobiles, transit vehicles with suspensions will be affected by unsprung weight ie that
which is below the springs. AC motors, especially in freq drives, tend to be smaller than their
DC cousins especially horsepower to horsepower. We just replaced a 3 hp DC drive at Vulcan in
Albuquerque and it took three guys to carry the thing down. What you're feeling sounds like they're using the stiffer spring rates for the heavier DC drives in the AC version and it's
affecting the ride. That would make some sense as the suspension components could be interchangeable but if you keep the stiffer springs you've got a 1968 Ford 4 wheeler!!
