May 7, 2009 has UPRR 7643(ES44AC) and UPRR Heritage UP1996(SD70ACe) waiting at Tempe Siding for the passing of a westbound Tucson-Campo( Phoenix ) manifest freight led by UP 4310(SD70M). The two unit consist was the quarterly UPRR-Operation Lifesaver sponsored ‘CARE-Officer On Train’ special in order to educate local law enforcement on grade crossing safety needs throughout the Valley of the Sun. Although Amtrak’s last Sunset Limited plied these rails in June 1996, the brick platform (laid down in 1987) is still in terrific shape thanks to the Macayos Depot Cantina!
