I cannot answer your question directly, but there indeed was a once a week Refrigerator RoadRailer train that ran the transcon from Fresno or Modesto or Bakersfield to Chicago. I don't know many details, such as when it started, when it ended, or why it ended. My guess is that it was replaced by regular reefer cars or intermodal trailers.
