If you're referring to the line that used to run under Hwy. 160 just east of the former WP line, it's gone but not forgotten. Ties are still in place, but the rails are gone. It went perhaps 3 years ago. It wouldn't take much to resurrect the dead, providing vertical and side clearances under Hwy. 160 are sufficient. Perhaps a bit of undercutting, ballasting and a bunch of panel track?
At sunup this morning there was still a gray-black cloud rising straight up, then veering north like a magic marker on the horizon.
Right now, 7:40 AM, the southbound Starlight is in Sacramento as usual with an eastbound Capitol Corridor consist waiting on the center span of I Street Bridge to get into the station.
And yes, there is the smell of smoke and putrefying creosote in the air here in downtown Sacramento (I work at 5th and N on the 17th floor facing north).
