Well, at the risk of beating this smoldering horse to death, I offer my limited insight and preponderance of opinion.
Thanks to all who have taken a level headed view of the goings on down at the river. We are, for the most part, only observers. Aside from providing us with a new reason to pontificate about the railroad, firefighting techniques and lawdy knows what else (guilty as charged, Your Honor...), this really doesn’t effect us.
We’re in a unique position to watch and see how the Union Pacific steps up to the plate and deals with the situation they’ve been dealt. They don’t need, nor will they solicit our inputs.
My opinion of the U.P. not withstanding, I think we are going to see this company pull out all the stops to get this line reopened faster than we might consider possible. I expect we’ll see Herculean efforts on the part of the railroad, contractors, and various agencies to make this happen. This is a company with the resources and connections to do it.
Enough of that -
As I sort of expected, the Hill was really quiet today, one westbound and nos 5 & 6. I’m guessing traffic is being held to allow crews to complete the connection at Binney Jct. Once completed, that should really speed things up a bit.
As always, I could be wrong about any or all of this...
