Re: Visualizing the Detour?

Does anyone have a link to a map showing the lines in this area (and a description of which ones Amtrak's using)? I'm having a hard time figuring out why the CZ seems to leave Sacramento, go out through Roseville, Binney and Haggin junctions, and then back to Sacramento. It sounds awkward, but I'm having a hard time visualizing it and why it would be necessary to leave Sacramento and then return to Sacramento.
Another question: someone asked if more freight traffic is going on the Coast Sub as a result of this. If UP were to divert some of its traffic down to the Sunset Route, what would be the time difference between using the Central Valley/Tehachapi Pass route (like BNSF does) versus using the Coast Sub? I know it's an annoyingly long trip between LA and San Jose on the Coast Sub and that taking a bus to Bakersfield and using the San Joaquins to the Bay Area is a lot shorter, but I'm not sure how much time it would take to traverse Tehachapi Pass/Mojave/Cajon Pass. Is there even enough capacity available on Tehachapi to run extra trains that way? I've heard Amtrak and/or Metrolink won't run that way for a long time because it's very congested and not double tracked.
