Coleman, you've written the above paragraph number of times. Perhaps you should question yourself about whether you fit in here. The postings are not nonsensical, people have issues with the method by which you participate here. You need to think about how to better fit in.
I doubt it will do any good, but I will point out that many of your viewpoints fail to take into account that UP is simply a business. Everything is looked at in dollars, not whether something is good or bad (such as your comment about backup routes being a good idea, or apricot warehouses that sit on a virtually abandoned line). The bottom line is the dollar, and that's all that's looked at. They are not about to spend a lot of those dollars to serve one fruit shipper or create a bypass that may be needed once a century. I also need to point out that UP's business management is probably a lot more saavy than you are about choosing how to re-route, what lines to use and what lines not to, and many other issues you claim to have a better idea of. While endless speculation might be fun, I think the purpose of this board is more rooted in reality - what the railroads ARE doing, not what you think they OUGHT to be doing.
