The folks in downtown Oakland who were NOT sorry to see the WP tracks pulled up were the PRODUCE Sellers and Distributors. For many years, there were fights that broke out between the Produce guys and the train crews for blocking the street. It is well documented..
Anyone have photos of the Produce trucks blocking the tracks.

Third Street was one of the great stretches of street trackage to perfect the art of "McNittin"... (driving your car down the street on the tracks without letting any air out, and then possibly continuing onward after the pavement ran out, as I did and wound up at 5th Avenue near BART.)
Another great place was the OTR trackage, Key System trackage, IER trackage on Lincoln Ave in Alameda and wonderful X-Street in Sacramento.. Any other "McNitters" out there ??
