"I saw 1955 Chevys do this in rural Missouri. The locals would deflate the tires just slightly, and then head out of town on the tracks. It was a MP local branch which saw no odd hour service.
They would especially love to do this when there were lots of people in town on some evening. They would come driving into town on the tracks with their headlights on and horns honking."

"I understand second hand that back then in the sixties, Wide Track Pontiacs were pretty good at this.

"On a "dare" from one of my railfan friends 20+ years ago, I took my 72 Plymouth Satellite on the CSS&SB rails in 11th street (or is it 12th?) in Michigan city and kept going when they went into private right-of-way and the street ended. I went perhaps 40-50 feet, chickened out, and backed up back onto the street."
Here's a comment from our own local fan, "Gary Jones" :
But will it work with front wheel drive?

"Did that a few times. Always fun. You just had to pick a street with little or no vehicular traffic.
BUT - will it work with today's front wheel drive cars?"
Cheers.
