Not to split hairs to closely, but
From the rule books of the era: "Station - A place designated by name in the timetable".
From WP Western Division Timetable #25, dated 6/17/1940: Melrose (S.P. Crossing) at MP 13.5
From S P Co (Pacific Lines) Timetable for the Western Division - Electric Lines, dated 2/28/1932: W.P. Crossing then Melrose. This timetable doesn't use mile posts, but distance from SF, which is 10.8 for Melrose, with no distance give for W.P. Crossing. It mentions Melrose Tower under interlockings in the Special Instructions and Clinton Tower, where the 7th St line crossed the WP (near 5th Avenue) but gives pole numbers rather than MP locations.
From IER Timetable #1, dated 1/15/1939: W.P. Crossing, distance from SF 14.12, Melrose, distance from SF 14.27. The difference is because of operating over the Bridge Railway. Both Clinton and Melrose Towers are still listed under interlockings (pole numbers) in the Special Instructions.
On the SP (and IER) Melrose and the passenger depot were the same location. The Melrose freight station used by TCC/TOPS in the later years was probably a slightly different MP, but not by much, and not on what is now the 2MT Niles Sub.
In the late 1970s, I can recall some old head switchmen pointing out the California Railway connection as we went by on one of the electric leads. It came in just north of Clorox, and there were some partially ripped up power switches etc. I've always wondered whether the tracks on Glasscock St were ever part of the Cal Ry.
