The tracks on Market were removed in the late forties after the purchase of the Market Street Railway Co. by SF's MUNI. By 1950, the MSR lines had been converted to electric or gas/diesel busses as well as a large part of Muni's lines so the two tracks on Market were only used by MUNI's B,C,J,K,L,M,and N lines. The B and C were converted to bus on December 30th, 1956. The remaining MUNI lines all had (have)private right of way and tunnels.
The far track in my photo was installed during the BARTD construction during which the tracks on Market could change on a weekly basis. I will try and find more shots of Market and scan them.
