Oakland's historic 16th Street Station is a memory....Although the physical
building, or what is left of it, still stands, it was severely damaged by
the Loma Prieta quake of '89 as well as the nearby Cypress double deck
freeway. The part of the freeway that did not fall down was torn down and
the tracks of the depot were re-routed further to the west to make room for
the new 880 freeway. Here is a photo taken shortly after the main lines
were severed with the interlocking tower in the background.
