Man does time run together anymore, but I think it was 1999, at any rate it was about the time
that the A&MR was put back into service. I went with the Simpson guys to the Logging Show in
Portland and we stopped at Weyerhauser Cottage Grove to look over what was then the fastest dry
side stacking hoist in the world. Their comment was that it looked like they were going have access to 73' bulkheads and could I build a faster hoist. We built the faster hoist and for a while they were supporting the railroad pretty well, at least until the weather intervened. Simpson had some concerns, the bill out on a bulkhead load to say Indiana was about $5400 but there were assurances that would come down as traffic increased. For a while it looked like things
might actually work, especially considering that ES was handling the billing and paying for the
line haul rather than taking what's given which will be the current situation.
