It makes you kind of nostaligic for the postings of Mitsy? But, from some of the comments on the PD site, those posters have probably found a new home for the comments we used to get here.
It is not a surprising decision given the length of the line, the resultant need for higher speed, limititations in "train" capacity for the DMU technology, lack of flexibility in operations or maintenance, and the most important FRA safety issue. A 71 mile DMU operation with mixed local freight would be a challenge in acheiving the goal. Temporal separation would severely limit operations. "Heavy" or more properly "Commuter" rail technology, that is well proven, was always likely to be more cost effective and safer.
Certain politicians sheer infatuation with the variations of "doodle bugs" has always kind of amused me. And, the mouse should be chiming in on this very shortly?
