Here are the three cabooses that were being discussed. The 995 and 996
were twin bay window crummy that were originally Milwaukee road and
repainted as St Maries River Railroad. The 996 has sat in the yards there
"forever", used only occasionally by the M.O.W. crews. The 995 was the
caboose used on the Elk River Branch for years, until about 1993 or '94 when
it was swapped for a BN cupola caboose. As part of the deal the 995 was
repainted and sent to the historic group at the Spokane fairgrounds. The BN
was refurbished, painted in STMA colors and numbered 997 and is in use today
for the branch line. The old 996 is still on the property at St Maries, ID.
Somewhere in my files I have a shot of the 995 after being repainted in MILW
colors...or colors that were fairly close!
