TODAY'S PHOTO
While railfanning in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa in Aug 1993, I stopped by McMillan Park and Midwest Central Railroad's shops to get some steam engine roster shots. At that time Shop Services was building Michael Jackson's steam locomotive. This photo shows the locomotive and its new boiler, which was fabricated in Des Moines, IA. Behind the locomotive, the tender was nearing completion and was painted in two tone blue. I understand the locomotive was also painted in the same paint scheme and named after Jackson's mother, Katherine. The locomotive building project was shrouded in secrecy with the finished locomotive only steamed at night under the cover of darkness. The number plate for the locomotive was stored in a back room waiting attachment to the locomotive.
