The Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad's "Durbin Rocket" excursion train prepares for departure from the Durbin, West Virginia station on July 4, 2009. This train is powered by a rare two-truck Climax steam locomotive built in 1910, which was previously used by the Moore-Keppel Lumber Co. of West Virginia. These unique geared steam engines were designed for hauling loaded cars of logs out of forests on temporarily laid track over very rough and steep terrain. They were built by the Climax Locomotive Works in Corry, PA between 1880 and 1928. Over 1,000 Climax engines were built, but only about 18 survive. The "Durbin Rocket" operates over 5.5 miles on the former Chesapeake & Ohio Railway's Greenbrier Line.
