Personally, I'd bet with Matt that the "E" unit reporting marks are really "MRLX". If that is the case, then could show up on the W&I. However, it is also possible that MRL might want to add an "E" unit to their fleet. So, please, somebody in Tacoma - check and find out what the reporting marks of this unit REALLY ARE!
All through the NP and BN years 6-axle power was banned from both the P&L (now W&I) branch and the CW (now EWG) branch. I did hear rumors of a couple of ex GN SD7's on a P&L work train shortly after the BN merger, but no pictures have surfaced.
Today BNSF grain trains with BNSF 6-axle GE dash-9's run on the P&L and EWG successfully operates the CW line with 3 SD45's! So much for the "you can't run 6-axle power" theory! As a relief hogger for EWG I can say from my own experience that the SD45s run well, ride nicely, are awesome pullers, and if operated properly, are NOT big fuel guzzlers!
