Coleman your Esparto example is of course true to the extent that 10 reefers could haul the
total apricot production in an afternoon so what do you with the trackage for the next 364 days.
The thing that kept that line running was rock and what killed it was that they moved the
quarry. The end toward V'ville served a large warehouse area that used trucks because they're more
efficient in handling receivers without rail service. Rail has definite uses as do trucks, hell
years before UPS people picked up their packages at railroad stations via the Railway Express
Agency but things change and usually it's economics that drive it. Sure we'd like to see an SP
#22 or #24 in every town but those days are gone.
