we go "way back" with the Silver fleet owners, starting in 1995 when we filmed a Huell Howser California Gold program about the CZ aboard the Lariat. In 1997 we chartered the Lariat and took 23 family and friends down to LA and back behind #11 and #14 for our fortieth anniversary.
In 2007 we rode the fleet to Santa Fe and back and last year we rode the Lariat twice, roundtrip Oakland/Bakersfield for a promo trip and then on the AAPRCO special behind the Santa Fe steam loco roundtrip LA/San Diego. No question it is riding in the lap of comfort/luxury and etc.
And we know all about those trackside throngs---------they were out in droves on the San Diego trip last year and 10 years ago when we rode behind the 3985/844 from Sparks to Roseville they were also everywhere. Very exciting, though those idiots who do the chasing in their cars really terrify me.
