Alameda of the days past.

Between 1965 and 1971 I lived in Alameda and was as frequent a visitor to the railyard as the ballast. I remember the ferry apron at Encinal Terminals near Sherman St. at the Estuary and the two stall engine house at Thau Way across from the Island Auto Movie/Flea Market. I early on noticed the constuction pattern of the line as ATSF but never heard of the ATSF operating in Alameda although they did a ferry of freight between Richmond and there. Now there is nothing to speak of other than some rails in asphalt that nobody bothers to scrap. Even though the R.O.W. is almost rebuildable, except for the new homes built at Grand St., a miracle of industry returning would have to occur.
